Wounded Nation

It has pursued and pinned down thousands of high-profile and complex networks of national and international corporate and public fraudsters.

Drug kingpins, smugglers and racketeers have felt the Scorpions' sting. A major gang that smuggle platinum, South Africa's biggest foreign exchange earner, to a corrupt English smelting plant has been bust as the result of a huge joint operation between the SFO and the Scorpions. But the Scorpions, whose top men were trained by Scotland Yard, have been too successful for their own good.

The ANC government never anticipated the crack crimebusters would take their constitutional independence seriously and investigate the top ranks of the former liberation movement itself.

The Scorpions have probed into, and successfully prosecuted, ANC MPs who falsified their parliamentary expenses.

Three weeks until it begins anew

But the Braves did address every need, and Braves players on and off the record tell me they like Wren's three-month body of work and the team's chances of getting back to the postseason after two years of watching October unfold on TV.

Of course, they are also realistic. It's no secret what almost certainly needs to happen if the Braves are to have a successful season: They must, and I mean absolutely must, get better and more reliable starting pitching than they received from last year's injury-riddled rotation.

They need some other things to go their way, too, including good work from the revamped top of the order likely to include Kelly Johnson and/or Yunel Escobar; a productive season from center fielder Mark Kotsay in the first year of the post-Andruw era; and a healthy season from closer Rafael Soriano and his setup men and good work from one or more of the lefty relievers.

Blair received into Catholic Church in private Mass at cardinal's home

There has never been a Roman Catholic prime minister of Britain, although there is no constitutional barrier to such a move. However, it had been suggested in the past that Mr Blair would wait until after leaving office, to avoid possible clashes such as that of the .

Kia Motors America Announces Certified Pre-Owned Program

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 6 -- Kia Motors America (KMA) today at its national dealer meeting in Las Vegas announced its new Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program for Kia vehicles. The Kia CPO program launched today will roll out to Kia dealers through the end of the year and CPO sales will begin in the first quarter of 2008.

"A CPO program is an important part of our evolution into a tier-one automotive brand," said Len Hunt, executive vice president and COO of KMA. "It will help elevate us to the next level and raise the residual values of our vehicles."

KMA will partner with JM&A, one of the largest providers of finance and insurance (F&I) products in the automotive industry, which will provide training and education about the certification process and additional F&I products.

Will Dickey / Florida Times-Union

I'm writing today's review on the bad side of a rough New Year's Eve. However, I am not going to let the occasional irritated rumblings from my stomach deter me from my duties. I only wish today, of all days, I didn't have to write about . . . gulp . . . eggs. .

Where do women voters stand

It was clean, very well maintained, the tater tots were $2 and they had these huge four pitcher decanters that was almost enough for all of us. We had a blast.

I had forgot how much trauma is involved in slinging a 15 pound ball. My elbow is still a little sore.

I was hoping that Pink Martini was going to be a show at the FOX, maybe with the Atlanta Symphony. I would love to go to Miami, but tyhere would need to be several reasons to go that far.

What is duck bowling? Please tell me that you have not been throwing heavy balls at little ducks!

'Playground,' 'Carnival Games' fail to impress

The Wii has been touted as a system that's great for the whole family to play together. So it makes sense that collections of mini-games would be a good choice for such gatherings. And there are a few games out there that do it well --- ''WarioWare: Smooth Moves,'' for example. It's too bad that two recent offerings just aren't very fun.Let's start with the one I had a little bit of fun with: ''EA Playground.'' ''Playground'' is a compilation of playground games: dodgeball, paper-plane races, tetherball, etc. You can play it alone or with a group of friends. The single-player mode has you roaming around the school challenging other kids to their game of choice. If you win, you earn a sticker. The ultimate goal is to challenge the king of the school: The Sticker King. Most of the games I didn't find particularly interesting.
