| TheStar.com | USElection | Clinton's hopes will live or die in Ohio
Clinton has the more aggressive plan to deal with the fallout of the mortgage crisis that began on Cleveland's Fleet Avenue and cascaded all the way to Wall Street and finally beyond America's shores. She has called for a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures and a five-year freeze on subprime adjustable mortgage rates and has pledged $30 billion in funding to help combat the housing crisis. Her rival, Barack Obama, says Clinton's plan would drive up rates for traditional mortgages and has instead proposed spending $10 billion to prevent further foreclosures. With so much attention focused on Ohio as it votes Tuesday along with Texas, Rhode Island and Vermont, its economic malaise is now well known. Ohio has lost more than 200,000 jobs since 2000 and its unemployment rate is above the national average at 5.5 per cent; only Michigan has had a bigger net job loss in recent years.

Obama spends heavily to seek knockout blow
The causes that you hold dear have been the causes of his life. Barack has spent his entire career fighting for justice — as a community organizer in the streets of the South Side of Chicago, as a civil rights attorney, a constitutional law professor, an Illinois state Senator and a U.S. Senator. In Chicago Obama was charge with rape when he was 17 years old charges droped after his dad payed off some cops ???? Crucial to Obama's primary success, are his advisers unabashed beliefs that they can turn our hopes and emotions to their advantage. Our dreams projected upon their candidate translate into their delegate counts. The religious zeal of these advisers rests on the belief that faith alone is the source of conviction, and that conviction assures determination which in turn guarantees results.
Jaime Castillo: Car rental industry backs off promise to try to ...
After previously threatening to spend $1 million to fight the upcoming venue-tax election, the car rental industry has decided to sit it out after all. "We're not going to fight, in any kind of public sense, the referendum," said Patrick Farrell, a St. Louis-based Enterprise Rent-A-Car spokesman who commented Monday on behalf of a coalition of national rental car tax opponents. The news is a major boost to the efforts of Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, who is leading an establishment push to extend the tax on hotel rooms and car rentals that was used to build the AT&T Center. If approved by voters on May 10, the $415 million package of four referendums would pay for various public projects. They would include amateur sports fields, a performing arts center, river enhancements and future improvements at the AT&T Center.
Mazatlan mixes history with glitz
Just after dawn joggers hit the malecon, a 17-mile stretch of ocean-side boardwalk connecting historic Mazatlan with its encroaching hip side. As the day heats up, families with beach towels and young men lugging surfboards replace the morning exercise shift. By evening, as the sun dips into the Pacific, painting the darkening sky coral, couples stroll hand-in-hand along the walkway that serves as the pulse of this Mexican city. What do you want from your trip to Mexico? Banana boat rides leaving from a golden beach and dance floors bathed in pulsating lights or tours of a historic Italian-style opera house and a stroll through an open-air market with fresh meat hanging from hooks and hand-tooled huaraches stacked nearby? Quick detours from either side of this boardwalk give you both in this schizophrenic port.

Caucus: Still entering data
Marty Neilson, chair of the Boulder County Republican Party, said Thursday that she didn't have accurate records of turnout for past caucuses handy, but said she was very confident that the county GOP set a record in 2008."It was excellent - the energy was high and there were so many people getting involved," said Neilson. "Even though many of them didn't understand the process, and some would like it changed, I think it got them excited about becoming involved in the party and in the process."Anecdotal testimony after local Democratic and Republican caucuses has suggested that some people would have preferred a Presidential primary to a caucus. Crowds were incredibly large at some locations - about 19,000 Democrats and 3,500 Republicans caucused in Boulder County alone - and some witnesses have suggested that a certain number of people attended for the Presidential preference poll and left afterwards.
Bus driver suspended after child climbs out back window
After getting out of the bus, the boy ran to his home about four blocks away, Oaks said. "He went directly home and is with his mother," Oaks said this morning. "She was going to take the child to school." Oaks said the bus driver is required to have an aide on the bus to handle the children and a radio to communicate with the bus owner and school officials. "The driver did not stop and pick up an aid," he said. "We're also looking into why they didn't have communications on board. "Both those things are being investigated. And during the investigation, the driver is off the approved driver list." Oaks said the school system and the Knoxville Police Department are conducting the probe. The suspended driver has been on the Ridgedale School route for two weeks.

This is the equivalent of powering more than 400 households, or taking more than 200 cars off the road for a year. Design aspects of the San Francisco building include a natural ventilation system with operable windows that dramatically reduces energy consumption. The use of natural ventilation eliminates the need of mechanical ventilation in more than 70% of the tower's area. This 18-story structure uses about 30% less energy than traditional high-rise buildings. Both buildings are designed to conserve natural resources, take advantage of the equable climate, minimize waste, and create a healthy and productive work environment for all its tenants.
